30A – Final Reflection

Image
1) Read through your posts from this semester. Recall all of the experiences you've had a long the way -- the highs, the lows -- the fun moments, and the moments of drudgery, and even the moments of dread. I just went through a roller coaster of emotions reading through my posts for sure. 2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing? I would have to say getting out there and finding people to interview was my most formative experience. I will always remember the absurd jokes my friends and I would add to our comments on each others' posts. My most joyous experience was probably getting an A. I am most proud of getting an A. 3) At the beginning of the semester, I mentioned that I wanted each of you to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Now, at the end, do you see yourself as an entrepreneur? Do you ...

Opportunity: For my product, the people who have the need are scooter or bike owners who don’t own or wear a helmet. These scooter and bike owners need to wear helmets for their safety, but many do not. Through my research, I have found that a big factor in people not wearing helmets is that they feel uncool wearing them. I want to create a helmet that people are excited to wear. Because people have the need for a safety device that looks good, I think I can fill it. Geographically, this topic is pretty much restricted to only Gainesville, since we are the only school to really have scooters. There is no one set demographic, but it would be targeted mostly to college students, since they are the ones who normally use scooters. Customers are not satisfying their need, they are risking their safety for coolness. This opportunity could realistically take over Gainesville, but it would struggle outside of Gainesville. This opportunity will continue on as long as students don’t wear helm...

28A – Your Exit Strategy

1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children? I would like to exit by selling the company before I leave Gainesville. If I could sell my company before I left to someone who would stay here, I could use that money towards something else in my entrepreneurial journey. 2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy? I selected it to have more freedom after I am done with my company. Since it is a rather location specific company, it lets me go somewhere else if I need to. 3) How do you think your exit strategy has influenced the other decisions you've made in your concept? For instance, has it influenced how you have identified an opportunity? Has it influenced your growth intentions or how you plan to acquire and use resources...

27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

1) You read about an entrepreneur: I read Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. What surprised you the most? I was most surprised that the way he began to amass real wealth was due to his Pixar stock, not from Apple. What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I admired his dedication. Even when he was basically fired from his company, he eventually came back and decided to help, because he was dedicated. What about the entrepreneur did you  least  admire? I least admired his crazy fruitatarian diets and other weird health things about him. When he had cancer, he refused chemo and tried to beat it naturally or something, which lead to his death.  Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it? Like I said above, he got fired from Apple. After Apple, he created his own company called NeXT, and bought into Pixar. He became a billionaire from these decisions so he did pretty well.  2) What competencies did you notice that t...

26A – Celebrating Failure

1) Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time.  Since the quarantining has begun, I have played a lot of the popular free battle royale Apex Legends. Growing up, I was never allowed to really own a gaming system outside of my DS until I got to high school. Because of this, I am behind the general curve for playing video games. Due to this fact, I die a lot. And I mean a lot. One particular time I can remember is when I was 1v1ing someone to win the game and I got utterly destroyed. It made me and my fellow teammates very upset.  2) Tell us what you learned from it.   I learned that practice makes perfect. The more I play, the better I get. Although I may be a huge loser, I can still find joy in destroying 12 year olds in video games. 3) Reflect, in general, on what...

25A – What’s Next?

Existing Market.  Step 1: Talk about what you think is what's next in terms of products and services for your venture. After my helmets take off, I think that I could make a successful accessory brand. I believe that if my helmets become a household name, people will be willing to buy other scooter accessories from me.  Step 2: Based on your own expectations and the feedback you received from customers, set a path for the future. Describe what makes the most sense for your venture in terms of growing in your existing market. I would say that my path would be first get a prototype helmet. Once I get this prototype, I do customer testing with some friends to see what is missing and what is hitting. Once I have done this multiple times, I can determine my final form, and start getting my product out there. The best way I can do this is by both paying influencers and by having a deal with scooter shops to give away my helmets to new scooter owners. The way to make my ...
