9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2
Who: This opportunity can be marketed to both bikes and scooters, but not real motorcyclists. Motorcyclists ride them for fun, most students ride bikes and scooters solely for transportation.
What: I think that this opportunity is more of a fashion and function opportunity, moreso than a luxury thing. From my research, I have found that student want one that looks cool, and we all know college kids have no money, so I want it to be cheap enough for them to want to buy.
Why: Motorcyclists aren't worried about looking cool to other people, they just like riding, so they either have helmets or they won't buy them.
After talking with 5 motorcycle owners, I found out that there is an almost fraternity behind motorcycles. Those who buy motorcycles seem to do it because they truly enjoy the ride, the way it makes them look, and the way it makes them feel. They often buy helmets which fit their bikes and fit the look which they want. Although most said that they would enjoy the customizable helmet feature, although I believe that the helmets would not be big enough. They all said that they were not really worried about the size of the helmet, and 3 out of the 5 had helmets that covered their faces and all. Since scooters don't go much more than 30-45 mph, the helmets I would try to make would not cover the face. I believe that motorcyclists cared more about safety for high speeds and fitting a "motorcycle" look, whereas the scooter and possibly bicycle owners want one that look good.

Hi Michael!
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a cool idea and will have a lot of beneficial safety impacts if it increases the amount of people wearing helmets. Maybe for advertising you could get influencers to wear them or make TikToks to popularize them as a trend. I think it's smart to target scooter and bicycle owners rather than motorcyclists, as more students and young people ride scooters and bikes, and will be an easier market to reach.
Dude idk how you got a chart in this post more power to you sir. I really think your topic is great and has a lot of avenues to explore. Whether it be logistics, monetary or legislative I have no doubt you'll have an ingenious solution for this opportunity. I think more power in the consumers hand the better and you are really grasping for your market. I would be concerned about your demographic pool and maybe try to expand after you develop your first product.
ReplyDeleteHi Michael,
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of making a helmet that is smaller and easier to store in the scooter or motorcycle after riding it. This is one of the main reasons that I don't wear a helmet on my scooter because of how inconvenient it is. If you able to make a helmet that was easier to store I would be very inclined to buy it. Not only would this idea make people safer, but it would also make you some money!
